Internal Audit departments continue to increase the extent to which they use data analysis techniques.  The use of these techniques not only provides efficiencies by automating testing procedures, but also provides management greater comfort through the ability to review large populations of transactions, rather than using the traditional sampling approach. 

During this discussion, Julio and Henri will walk through real-life examples of how they have used data analysis and the benefits they have realized.  Topics that will be covered include how data analysis can be used to perform the following:

·         Enhance overall audit procedures (e.g. sample selection, testing procedures, root case analysis, prioritizing remediation efforts)

·         Identify overpayments

·         Identify non-compliance issues (e.g. Federal Corrupt Practices Act)

·         Identify process improvement opportunities

SPEAKER BIOS

Henri Kinson, RVP, Internal Audit, WellPoint Inc.

Henri is the Regional Vice President in charge of Internal Audit for WellPoint's Central and Western regions, as well as for all audits covering their Individual business segment and Information Technology across 14 different states.   

Henri has over 20 years of internal audit leadership experience, in a variety of industries including healthcare, telecommunications and manufacturing.  Henri’s healthcare experience spans across several functions, lines of business and payors, including non-profit, commercial, payors and providers.  During his time at WellPoint, Henri has helped to identify significant cost savings and recoveries in multiple areas.  He also helped design and implement the department's "Quality Audit Review" process to enhance the overall quality of the internal audit process across the organization.

Prior to WellPoint, Henri worked for the Rockford Health System in Rockford, IL, where he served in a variety of leadership positions, including Director of Internal Audit and Corporate Director of Managed Care.

Julio Flores, Director, PwC

Julio is a Director in PwC's Internal Audit practice in Indianapolis.  Julio has over 15 years of experience in public accounting and private industry serving companies in a variety of industries, including healthcare, insurance, retail, manufacturing and financial services.

Julio has significant experience in helping companies perform organization-wide risk assessments and developing and executing internal audit plans.  Julio has also helped many companies with process improvement projects.  Throughout Julio's internal audit and consulting experience, he has used data analytics to enhance the sample selection process, automate testing procedures, and identify process improvement opportunities.

Prior to joining PwC, Julio was a Director in KPMG's Los Angeles Advisory practice where he helped lead many of the firm’s healthcare consulting and risk management initiatives.  Prior to KPMG, Julio was an underwriting manager for a property and casualty insurer.
